Watch the Sky (News)

Newshounds has a new report (courtesy of the Guardian) on Rupert Murdoch's stated intent to make his British Sky News more like Fox News. My comment is below.

My brother from the states gets to watch Fox News and Sky on his TV subscription service in the UK.

Sky, he told me, is definitely to the right of the BBC. Unlike Fox News, however, it is not into the "movement conservatism" of Fox, where advancement of conservative/Republican goals are placed above journalistic ethics and conservative principals. (Republican arrested for soliciting gay sex in a men's room? Defend his civil rights!)

He said if a Sky conservative commentator thinks a conservative politician's an idiot, he'll say so.

But be on your guard, those in the UK. When Murdoch wants something, he's very good at getting it. You know as least as well as us that he's not to be underestimated.

Wonder Twins Parody

I ran into this when Cartoon Network started its "Adult Swim" programming, and it had me in stitches.

Oh, yes, it's funny, but Zan carries it. He carries almost every Wonder Twins parody. Something about being able to turn into water...with your sister's help. It's just so sad. (In a funny way.)

By the Way, I'm Still Obsessing on George Harrison

Thought I'd look at George's ITunes page and see how how his most popular song rankings have changed since last month, again with the idea that George "best of" can be suggested by the free market.

Here are the top ten most popular Harrisongs on ITunes:

My Sweet Lord
Got My Mind Set On You
What Is Life
Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)
Here Comes the Sun (Live in Japan)
All Those Years Ago
If Not for You
Blow Away
Crackerbox Palace
When We Was Fab

The Live in Japan version of "Here Comes the Sun" has entered the top ten, displacing "All Things Must Pass. The rest of the changes are just the songs moving around the top ten. It's worth noting that "If Not For You" is now the only George album track in the top ten. The rest are all hit singles (except for the Beatle cover, of course.)

The next ten goes as follow (again, I'm discounting all but the five most popular All Things Must Pass tracks, as the idea is to see what kind of "best of" could be suggested by his most purchased songs on ITunes, and I don't want to overload on one album.)

All Things Must Pass
Beware of Darkness
Wah-Wah
This Song
Isn't It a Pity (Version Two)
Something (Live in Japan)
Awaiting On You All
Devil's Radio
Apple Scruffs
Love Comes to Everyone
Dream Away
I'd Have You Anytime
Living In the Material World
This Is Love
Dark Horse (Live in Japan)

"Beware of Darkness" is now the 5th most popular track from All Things Must Pass, booting "Wah-Wah" from the "best of" lineup, which is fine by me.

The only development that I don't like is that "Any Road" is no longer on the list, which means no Brainwashed songs in the line-up. This is too bad, as it is a good album, one of George's best.

I've noticed that there are now three songs from Live in Japan (A fourth, "Cheer Down," just missed making the list), and all of them are songs whose studio versions are still unavailable on ITunes. Maybe they should be considered expendable, as they seem to be substitutes for what people really want. (Though a couple of Beatle covers are not a bad idea for a compilation, and I consider the LIJ "Dark Horse" to be superior to the studio version.)

Some notable George songs that are blocked from the list:

"Dark Horse"
"Ding Dong"
"You"
Bangla Desh
"Deep Blue"
"Isn't It a Pity" (Version One--not available for individual sale on ITunes, thus hampering its chart performance.)

All of these were popular singles, and since his hit singles do well on the chart, they should be considered too.

You might be a conservative if...

...If you'd trample the Constitution to protect the flag.

...If you love your country and hate most of the people in it.
